As economists ruffle to discuss the impact of Konza Technopolis on the economy, one thing is evident, and that is Machakos and Kajiado are tremendously growing. When you look at Isinya three years ago, there is evident change. Not only in the population, but also in the landscape and value of land. From the 2019 census, Kenya has a population of 47.5 million people with nine out of every 10 falling in the 20-35 year old category. 40% of these individuals are first-time house renters and live in the suburbs of Nairobi due to the lower cost of living. In the next 5-10 years, with a surging 2.5% year on year population growth, these individuals will be in the 30-45 year old category and will be seeking to buy or build houses. The current go to areas for this demographic are areas like Syokimau and Kitengela but in the 5-10 years the hitherto named areas will be out of reach for the “common mwananchi.”
With the government focused on infrastructural development, Mombasa road is a destination that will not be ignored. With the proposed Mlolongo – Westlands and the Nairobi – Mombasa Express ways; we cannot ignore the amount of value nested in Mombasa road, and this dear readers will be the spike of Konza Technopolis. Isinya in the next 5 years will become the haven Syokimau and Kitengela are today. The growth of Isinya as a neighboring town to Konza will also mean that neighboring Kajiado will positively benefit from the digital city. I concur with Mark Twain when he says that the future is built because that is what Kenyans are doing. Anyone who has been to Isinya – Konza will bear me witness.
